Policy on Materials Selection The Northville District Library selects materials that fulfill its mission of providing access to information which meets the educational, cultural, and recreational needs of the community. The Library provides materials in a variety of formats, including print, video, audio and electronic. The Library Director is responsible for the overall selection of materials. In turn, the Director delegates responsibility for selection to the professional staff in a manner that assures the best use of the library’s resources. The general public may recommend specific materials, but ultimate decision making rests with the library director. The Collection Development Plan shall define in more detail various subject and format guidelines. The Library supports the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, the Freedom to Read Statement, and the Freedom to View Statement, which are included in the appendix to this manual.
