The Neighborhood Library Association (NLA) is a group of five area libraries in a collaborative partnership. The goal is to bring members of their communities together to read and discuss the same book in an annual Community Read. These five libraries also encourage community members to come together for events and programs related to that year's selected book. The five libraries composing the NLA are: Lyon Township Public Library, Northville District Library, Novi Public Library, Salem-South Lyon District Library and Wixom Public Library.

2012 Community Reads
 |
The 2012 Community Reads book selection is Picking Cotton: Our Memoir of Injustice and Redemption by Jennifer Thompson-Cannino and Ronald Cotton with Erin Torneo. Picking Cotton is the true story of a wrongfully convicted man's fight for the truth and the crime victim's struggle to recover from her grief over falsely accusing the wrong man. The last part of the book is the story of the meeting and eventual friendship of the two, as Thompson-Cannino challenges our ideas of memory and judgment, and Cotton talks about his faith and forgiveness. The 2012 Community Reads program begins August 16 through November 14, 2012. Copies of the book are available now at all NLA libraries.
A complete list of book discussions and programs related to the book can be found in the 2012 Community Reads brochure, or at the Neighborhood Library Association's website, www.mynla.info.
