If you like to listen to books, you now have many choices of how to do that!  Come into the library and select a book on CD or tape or playaway to listen to….or… access online audiobooks from your home computer using your Northville District Library card.

PICK UP AT YOUR LIBRARY

Books on CD - We offer a large collection of fiction and non-fiction titles on CD to listen to in your car or at home.

Playaways - Easiest way to listen on the go!  Half the size of a deck of cards, playaways are self-contained units with no CD or tape required!  Just plug in and listen!  Fresh battery included with each unit…you supply the headphones.

Audiobooks

Download Destination from Overdrive

Download best selling digital audiobooks to your PC or Mac and transfer them to a compatible portable listening device (link) or even burn to a CD!  Take a quick tour to see how it’s done.
• WMA Audiobooks - Can be downloaded and then transferred to a portable device compatible with DRM.
• MP3 Audiobooks - Can be downloaded and then transferred to any MP3 device, including iPods. A list of compatible devices can be found here.

Checkout periods:

• Audiobooks (WMA or MP3): 14 days
• eBooks: 14 days

Overdrive Media Console: The items you check out are downloaded to your computer using the OverDrive Media Console. You will need to install this on your system. Specifications for PC and Mac are here. The larger audiobook files are broken into parts to make long downloads easier to manage. The Media Console is also used to burn files to a CD or transfer to a portable device.

TumbleBook Library -  Online collection of animated, talking picture books designed to encourage the joy of reading in young children.

TumbleReadables -  Online collection of read-along titles for elementary, middle school, and high school students plus classics of American and English  literature which features adjustable online text and complete audio  narration.

Playaways -  This is a fun, easy way for kids to listen to books.  Choose from our collection of fiction and non-fiction titles found in the Youth area on the main level of the library.
